One of oldest schools in Serbia receives state-of-the-art computer equipment

One of the oldest schools in Serbia, founded in 1807 - Vuk Karadžić Primary School of the town of Donji Milanovac, has received a modern computer classroom owing to a donation from Telekom Srbija as part of the project We Create Knowledge. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development.

At the opening ceremony held on Sunday when the 212th anniversary of the school was marked as well, Telekom Srbija PR Department Manager Marija Bošković said that the project We Create Knowledge was implemented as part of the programme We Support the Initiators whereby Telekom Srbija endeavoured to strengthen the drivers of positives changes in their environment.

“With this project, we wish to support our educational system and younger generations which are the mainstay of our society, providing for cutting-edge working conditions, both for the pupils and their teachers. By fitting out computer classrooms in primary schools we wish to contribute to expanding digital literacy because at present, digital communications are closely associated with learning. By using state-of-the-art technologies at school, pupils may be properly acquainted with their advantages and learn about potential risks. We launched the We Create Knowledge project in 2017 and so far, we have fitted out 60 computer classrooms in primary schools across the country. We are very proud of the fact the the school in Donji Milanovac, as one of the oldest, received state-of-the-art computer equipment which will help many generations to come to acquire their knowledge,” Marija Bošković said.

Vuk Karadžić Primary School is one of the 20 schools, selected by Internet vote, to receive computer equipment from Telekom Srbija this year. The headmaster of the school, Damjan Stevkić, said that the school employees, children’s parents and residents of Donji Milanovac and its environs participated in the vote.

“Even though our town is small, we managed to elicit a large number of votes and receive one million dinars which Telekom Srbija earmarked for the procurement of computer equipment. This is by far the most important donation which our school received over the past few years and I would like to thank Telekom Srbija once more for the importance it attaches to the development of education in all parts of Serbia. The funds were used for the acquisition of laptops, smart boards and the accompanying equipment, whereby we completed the fitting out of a new computer classroom which will enrich teaching and facilitate the acquisition of knowledge through digital content,” said Damjan Stevkić.
