Telekom Srbija equips another 20 IT classrooms in Serbian schools Computer equipment donated to Elementary School Milan Munjas in Ub

The Telekom Srbija company has continued to equip IT classrooms in the elementary schools within the project We Create Knowledge which has been carried out for a third year in a row in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development. The CEO of the Telekom Srbija company, Predrag Ćulibrk and Education Minister Mladen Šarčević have ceremoniously granted computers and the accompanying equipment to Elementary School Milan Munjas in Ub, one of the 20 schools that have received Telekom Srbija’s donations this year.

The CEO of Telekoma Srbija recalled that over the last three years the company had equipped IT classrooms in 60 elementary schools throughout Serbia and the We Create Knowledge program is implemented as part of the program We Support the Initiators.

“We launched the project of equipping IT classrooms in the elementary schools in 2017 on the occasion of 20 years of our company in order to secure modern conditions for the students and teachers and raise digital literacy to a higher level. Connecting digital communications with learning is very important today, because it is really at school that the children learn how to correctly use the advantages of modern technologies, and how to avoid all the technology-related dangers. We see initiators in young generations and it is exactly the empowerment and investment in young people that we are traditionally committed to and that represents an important aspect of the social responsibility of Telekom Srbija”, said Predrag Ćulibrk, the CEO of the Telekom Srbija company.

Education Minister Mladen Šarčević thanked Telekom Srbija for the valuable donations for IT classrooms, given the fact that information and computer science is today a mandatory subject in elementary schools.

“From this school year, Information and Computer Science is studied as a mandatory subject in the fifth, sixth and the seventh grade. In order to achieve continuity in information science education we have established a Working Group for the introduction of information science as a mandatory subject in the first cycle of elementary education. We thus want to point out that the basic digital competences are built primarily within the education system, from an early age. The teacher is the one who has to competently use technology in the organization of new, various forms of learning, teaching and grading, in accordance with the age and development characteristics, capabilities and interests of the student and the school atmosphere. Through the project We Create Knowledge, the winning schools received the necessary basis for a responsible, sensible and ethical application of digital technologies, which play a key role in the education system of the 21st century“, said Minister Šarčević.

Elementary School Milan Munjas is one of the 20 schools that were chosen by the citizens in an Internet vote. The school’s headmistress emphasized the importance of engaging the local community in the vote and selection of the school.

“This equipment is especially important for us and we know that it will significantly improve the quality of not only IT classes, but classes in general and the out of class activities that we can offer our students. Such projects show how important it is for the common aim to unite all participants in the education process in schools – the local community, the relevant ministry and the socially responsible companies“, said Živana Baratović, the headmistress of Elementary School Milan Munjas.
