Winners of eighth mts app competition proclaimed

Telekom Srbija has presented awards, valuable mobile handsets, to secondary school students who created the best applications for mobile handsets in the framework of the eight mts app competiton. The presentation of the applications was held at the Startit Centre. The jury declared the following applications as being the best: Cipher by the Chemist and Roboticist team of the Mathematics Grammar School of Belgrade, Collector, created by the kollTeam of Bolyai Grammar School of Senta, H-Work applicaton, authored by the MAP team of Bora Stanković Grammar School of Niš, and virSpeak and Flux applications by the SouthSerbia Džiberi and Baltazar teams of Svetozar Marković Grammar School of Niš.

“We are very proud of the students who, apart from their duties at school, have invested great efforts in creating good quality and worthwhile applications this year too. It is again evident that we have a generation prepared to meet the competition requirements, manifesting great creativity and imaginativeness in the making of applications of practical use and in presenting a finished product. It is in this manner that we support the new generation of Telekom’s initiators”, Marija Bošković, head of the Public Relations Department of Telekom Srbija, said and added that the mts app competition was one of the leading projects within the campaign entitled We Initiate the Initiators whereby Telekom Srbija is endeavouring to empower institutions and individuals to bring about a positive change in their environment and encourage others to follow in its footsteps.

Since 2011, Telekom Srbija has successfully organized the mts app competition intended for grammar school students studying according to the syllabus for talents in mathematics, informatcs and computer science. As many as 28 teams of the grammar schools of the towns of Senta, Novi Sada, Belgrade and Niš, promoted 29 applications.

Apart from such criteria as originality, complexity, innovativenness and functionality of the solution, the jury also took account of the socially responsible purpose of the applications and their contribution to an improved use of mobile handsets and devices. The five teams of Serbia that created the best applications will be competing against the winning teams of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro in the framework of the Regional App Challenge, which is held in Podgorica this year. The winners of the Regional App Challenge will be traveling to Berlin for a visit to one of the leading IoT conferences, and will also receive a special award for innovativennes.

Currently, 2,000 students are familiar with the idea of the mts app competition, whereas 135 teams have presented 141 applications. The competition is included in the selection of the renowned European organization, CSR Europe, and is upheld by the Ministry of Education, Science and Tehnological Development.
