Telekom Srbija presents gifts to pupils in run up to holiday season

On the eve of New Year’s and Christmas holidays, for a seventh consecutive time, Telekom Srbija presented primary school libraries with books, in a bid to encourage the development of reading habits and love of literature among younger generations. Following this tradition, this year the Company granted more than 1,200 books, including some unforgettable titles such as Teenage Years, Robinson Crusoe and Gulliver’s Travels and works by such classics as Anton Chekhov, Branislav Nušić and Jova Jovanović Zmaj.

As in the past years, Telekom Srbija selected ten primary schools that had addressed the National Library of Serbia and sought assistance in restoring its book repository. Books intended for school libraries have been granted since 2015 as part of Telekom Srbija’s umbrella programme We Initiate the Initiators whereby the Company encourages institutions and individuals to galvanize positive changes in their environment. Investing in the education of young people lies at the core of Telekom Srbija’s socially responsible activities, and the promotion of the conditions for acquiring knowledge in primary schools is the Company’s priority as part of the project We Create Knowledge within which, during a period of five years, as many as 100 computer classrooms in 100 primary schools in this country were equipped.

Developing these programmes, Telekom Srbija makes it possible for primary school pupils to expand their knowledge in the sphere of digital literacy and encourages them to adopt and maintain the habit of reading print books as the corner stone of literacy in the broader sense of the word.
