Valuable awards for winners of Regional App Challenge
The team from the Niš high school “Svetozar Marković” that has this year won the third Regional App Challenge in the creation of mobile applications, organized by the Telekom Srbija group, has been awarded with computer equipment of an advanced configuration chosen by the students according to their needs and desires. According to the terms of the competition held at the end of February in Banjaluka, the winning team was supposed to visit an IT conference in Porto, which was impossible this year due to the coronavirus epidemic, so they received valuable IT equipment from Telekom Srbija instead.
Members of the winning team Augmentum, Vuk Marković, Jelena Pantić and Milan Radomirović say that participation in the competition was a valuable experience because they had the chance to be creative and present their idea, and also become familiar with the ideas of their peers and gain friends with similar interests. Although a visit to one of the prestigious IT conferences in Europe has so far been an award that is hard to match, the new choice of award has delighted the students even more.
“The awards, i.e. the equipment we have received is especially precious to us, because it is a tool for conquering the new, undiscovered spheres of IT, and for further development of our careers. We are grateful to mts for the exceptional awards and we wish a lot of success to future generations who will present their ideas to a large number of people through this competition”, said Vuk Marković. Jelena Pantić stressed that the award came at the right moment because each of them had been already saving money from projects they had been working on in order to improve their equipment and be able to work more easily and efficiently. Milan Radomirović also shared his impressions of the competition, telling his peers who participate in the competition that they would never regret it because they will gain new knowledge and ideas, receive advice from professionals and make new friends.
The Augmentum team was awarded for the iOS application Starlight designed to improve the world in which we live with the help of AR technology.
A total of 15 most creative teams of high school students from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro took part in the finals of the Regional App Challenge. The winning applications were chosen in the national part of the competition, which is in Serbia known under the title mts app competition.
Currently underway is the tenth cycle of the mts app competition by which Telekom Srbija has offered supported to talented and ambitious high school students from specialized classes for mathematics, information science and computing for over a decade. Only in Serbia, over 2,000 students have so far taken part in the mts app competition, while 153 teams have presented as many as 160 applications.
The mts app competition is one of the most significant projects of the umbrella program We Support the Initiators by which Telekom Srbija empowers and supports the institutions and individuals who are the initiators of positive changes in their community. Thanks to the importance that it has for young people and their educational and professional development, the competition has been included in the selection of the prestigious European organization CSR Europe, and is also supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development.
