Telekom Srbija equips 80 schools with computer equipment over last four years

Elementary school students in twenty elementary schools in Serbia will acquire knowledge from information science this school year in the new information science classrooms donated by Telekom Srbija. The modern computer equipment was provided for the schools within the “We Create Knowledge” project implemented by Telekom Srbija in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development. The project was launched with the aim to improve education conditions with the help of modern technologies and raise digital literacy of elementary school students to a higher level. For the duration of the project, over the last four years, the valuable donation of Telekom Srbija has been granted to 80 schools in the country.

Every year, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development proposes 40 elementary schools that lack information science equipment, while the decision on the selection of 20 schools that will receive the modern equipment is made by the citizens on the official Facebook page mts Tvoj svet. In this manner, parents, students, friends and neighbours will take part in the election of the winning schools. The additional value of the project lies in the fact that it encourages the community to become united in achieving the common goal and allows elementary school students to more easily acquire knowledge with the help of teachers who can inform them of the advantages and temptations that the digital technologies bring.

Apart from the students of higher grades who have information science as a mandatory subject, the new information science classrooms offer the necessary conditions for acquainting the first-grade elementary school students with digital technologies, given that a new subject called Digital World was introduced for first-grade elementary schools students in September this year. The importance of being computer literate received confirmation in the second half of the previous school year, when due to an unfavourable epidemiological situation and the state of emergency, classes were held online.

As part of the umbrella program “We Support the Initiators” by which Telekom Srbija empowers and supports the institutions and individuals who are the initiators of positive changes in their community, the We Create Knowledge project is aimed at supporting the youngest initiators – elementary school students. By this project Telekom Srbija continues its mission to maintain continuity in creating conditions for personal and professional development of young people.
