Ten years of support for young programmers

Telekom Srbija has launched a new cycle of mts app competitions that has posed a challenge for talented high school students for the past ten years and encouraged them to work on programming applications for mobile handsets. The number of schools that participate in the competition increases every year, so that only students from specialized classes for talents in the sphere of mathematics, information science and computing from 51 high schools in Serbia now have the right to participate in in the new cycle.

By participation in the mts app competition, the students will have a chance to design a useful and practical application in Android™ or iOS, program it and present it as a unique product on the market. If the application carries a socially responsible message, promotes the use of mobile phones and communication or contributes to overcoming situations caused by the corona virus epidemic, it will have an added value. The challenge is even greater if you know that the five most successful teams in Serbia, apart from valuable prizes, will get a chance to participate in the Regional App Challenge and compete with the best teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, because the competition is also held in these countries, under the auspices of m:tel BiH and m:tel Montenegro. The winners of the Regional App Challenge will get the main prize and the special prize in the innovativeness category.

Apart from the competition part, the immeasurable value of this competition lies in the fact that the students will get to know each other, spend time together and exchange experiences with their peers. In order to be able to use all the benefits of the competition under the present circumstances, this year the activities will be held online, and they will be adjusted to the health care situation. The students are supposed to create their team and apply for the competition until 20 November, and finish and submit their mobile application until 25 January 2021.

Telekom Srbija launched its mts app competition in 2011 to encourage talented high school students to develop their knowledge in the sphere of programming, aa well as their entrepreneurial and team spirit. The success of the competition is reflected in the fact that 153 teams have so far presented 160 applications at the competition. The competition has been included in the selection of the prestigious European organization CSR Europe, and is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development. The mts app competition is one of the leading projects in the umbrella program We Support the Initiators by which Telekom Srbija empowers and supports institutions and individuals who are the initiators of positive changes in their community.
