No species dies alone – the new campaign by Telekom Srbija

Let’s preserve the most important of all networks. The network of life.

The Telekom Srbija company has launched the campaign entitled “No species dies alone”, which emphasizes the importance of protection of biological diversity as one of the key conditions for the preservation of ecological balance. The first phase of the campaign is dedicated to the protection of birds as one of the best indicators of quality of the environment. Their distribution and number clearly reflect the conditions of the habitat which is home to both these species and people. The birds contribute to the quality of land, water, food, and thus also to people's health, and many of them prevent the spread of possible diseases.
The campaign is a result of long-term support of Telekom Srbija for associations and experts who, through active measures of protection and the use of modern technologies of mobile telecommunications in the monitoring of the endangered bird species, work on improving the living conditions both for the birds and for all of us.

“The main activity of the Telekom Srbija company is to develop a communications network. As a socially responsible company, we are aware that it is necessary to take care of the most important network – the network of life, in which every living being is unique and irreplaceable. This decade is dedicated to the preservation of biological diversity and the renewal of the eco-system. This is another reason why we decided to launch the “No species dies alone” campaign at the present moment although we have contributed to the protection of the natural values of Serbia for years. The experience and expertise of our partners, who in their protection measures use the cutting edge technology of mobile telecommunications, make it possible to work more efficiently on creating more favourable conditions for the survival of animal species without which our existence would also be brought into question”, said the head of Telekom Srbija’s PR Department, Marija Bošković.

The Telekom Srbija company is privileged in this case because it has among its employees the engineer Zoran Karić, who is at the same time an expert associate of the Foundation for the Protection of Birds of Prey. His contribution is crucial in the implementation of the “No species dies alone” campaign.

“The two most important legal instruments of the European Union used for the protection of nature and the environment are – the Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive. The first one contains a number of various species and habitats, while the birds are the subject of a separate directive due to their exceptional importance for the preservation of nature. The birds are the first and the real indicator of the deteriorating balance in nature. If the bird world is out of balance, it means the natural habitat of man is also out of balance. The use of modern technology, such as satellite and radio telemetry in the monitoring of the endangered bird species, allows us to achieve great efficiency in the implementation of measures of their active protection and protection of the environment in general”, said Zoran Karić.

The “faces” of the campaign – the griffon vulture, the European roller, the short-toed eagle and the owl are strictly protected and endangered species of birds to whose active protection the company contributes through cooperation with the Foundation for the Protection of Birds of Prey, the Citizens Association Jadovnik, the Gea Naturalist Society and the Riparia Association of Environmentalists. Since it was these environmentalists who asked the company for support, these four species of birds were selected as the symbols of protection of other rare and endangered species.
