Winners of third "Regional app challenge declared"

The companies Telekom Srbija, m:tel BiH and m:tel Montenegro, members of the Telekom Srbija group, organized the finals of a third competition in the creation of mobile phone applications, Regional App Challenge, in Banjaluka. A total of 15 teams of high school students, five from each country, whose applications had won the national competitions, took part in the finals.

An expert jury of the third regional competition declared as best the applications Starlight of the student team from Svetozar Marković High School from Niš, KuMe (Home Manager) of the student team from Banjaluka High School and MojRED of the student team from Vaso Aligrudić Electrical Engineering High School from Podgorica, who received a visit to the prestigious NDC IT conference in Porto as an award.

A special award for innovativeness The Power of Innovation – Igor Osmokrović was granted to the team of Vaso Aligrudić Electrical Engineering High School from Podgorica, for the application called Đe si, istoriju ponesi! The members of this team were given smart phones as an award.

Congratulating the winners, Telekom Srbija CEO Predrag Ćulibrk said that the companies within the Telekom Srbija group were strategically committed to innovations and the development of modern technologies and that through the projects such as Regional App Challenge they encouraged young people to dare and implement their ideas by continuous improvement and practical application of their knowledge.

“The mts App Competition has been held in Serbia for nine years, and three years ago it became a regional competition, so it is now also successfully held in BiH and Montenegro. As you know, the Telekom Srbija group is committed to positioning itself as a regional leader in almost all spheres of our operation. To achieve this aim, it is important to invest in the community and create to the highest degree possible a better atmosphere in all the countries where we operate. This is why we try to invest most in young people and education, because it is a high quality investment in the future”, said Ćulibrk and thanked the students from all three countries who have successfully met the requirements of the competition, and all the colleagues who have enthusiastically worked on implementing this important project for years.

Vladimir Lučić, the CEO of m:tel Montenegro and coordinator for Internet and multimedia of the Telekom Srbija group said that the competitors from all three countries had made a significant step in the digital world and that he believed the world was yet to hear about these young people.

“It is nice to be a part of this story and we are proud of all the participants in the competition and their mentors who have shown knowledge, vision and a team spirit. It is always a pleasure to watch the process of creating applications that facilitate communication in the modern world – from the original idea to its implementation. It is an even greater pleasure when your company encourages young people to work hard and be proactive because it always, without exception, brings results”, said Vladimir Lučić.

Marko Lopičić, the CEO of the m:tel BiH company , expressed satisfaction at the fact that it was exactly the m:tel BiH company that hosted this year's competition. “This is one of the largest socially responsible projects, not only of m:tel BiH, but the entire Telekom Srbija group. This project promotes the knowledge, team spirit and positive values in the best possible way, and I would also like to emphasize the fact that this is a good opportunity for young people from these three countries to exchange their experiences and knowledge, get to know one another and spend time together”, said Marko Lopičić.

Members of the winning team from Serbia, Vuk Marković, Jelena Pantić and Milan Radomirović, said that they were very happy that they had won the main prize – the visit to the conference in Porto. They added that they were looking forward to the opportunity to expand their knowledge of programming in Porto, and that the chance to become acquainted with the creative ideas and the way of thinking of their peers from the region meant a lot to them.

In 2020, a new round of competitions will be held for students from Serbia, BiH and Montenegro, while the number of interested high school students grows every year. Students from 75 schools took part in this year's round of competitions at the regional level – 47 in Serbia, 15 in Bosnia and Herzegovina and 13 in Montenegro.
