In accordance with the gift-giving holiday tradition, Telekom Srbija has once again this year donated books to primary school libraries and made it possible for pupils to discover their own new favourite books among the famous children’s classics.

Ten primary school libraries throughout Serbia will be richer not only in works by domestic writers, such as “Izbiračica” (The Chooser) by Kosta Trifković, “Pop Ćira and pop Spira” (Priest Ćira and Priest Spira) by Stevan Sremac, but also by famous authors of world literature who have conquered the hearts of children around the world for generations, such as “Journey to the Centre of the Earth” by Jules Verne or “Heidi” by Johanna Spyri.

This year’s donation of over 1,000 titles, as a traditional New Year’s campaign of Telekom Srbija is part of the program “We Encourage the Initiators” and was launched in 2015, with the aim of contributing to fostering the reading habits of elementary school pupils, at a time when the printed word is fighting for its space that it shares with digital reality. Owing to its cooperation with the National Library of Serbia, Telekom Srbija has the opportunity to renew the funds of libraries that really need it, so that new books reach the hands of young readers.

As a company committed to the development of modern technological solutions and services for users, Telekom Srbija, through the practice of socially responsible projects in the community, pays great attention to the education of young people, for whom digital literacy is just as important as cultivating the habit of reading. Thus, the “We Create Knowledge” project, within which the company has so far provided funds for equipping 120 modern information science classrooms in primary schools, contributes to improving the digital literacy of elementary school students and their better preparation for growing up and acquiring knowledge in a digital environment.

Among the schools whose library shelves, ahead of the holidays, will be decorated by new issues, are: Elementary School “Živko Ljujić”, Nova Varoš, Elementary School “Milan Rakić”, Babin Most, Elementary School “Boško Buha”, Štrpci, Elementary School “Partizanski Dom”, Medveđa, Elementary School “Radovan Kovačević”, Lece, Elementary School “Radovan Kovačević – Maksim”, Lebane, Elementary School “Novak Radonić”, Mol, Elementary School “Dobrinka Bogdanović”, Strelac, Elementary School “Veselin Masleša”, Belgrade and Elementary School “Branko Perić”, Rudna Glava.
